The Department for Water, Land and Biodiversity Conservation collects and manages information about a diverse range of South Australia's natural resources. By their very nature, these resources involve some geographic location, extent, and inter-relationships, requiring special methods for displaying, querying and analysing their characteristics. Data which has such geographic characteristics is generally manipulated in a Geographic Information System (GIS).

The Department has hundreds of geographic datasets containing information about many different aspects of our State's Natural Resources. While some of these datasets contain sensitive or private information, and are restricted to government use only, most are available for use by any interested party.
