What types of surface water data are available?
The South Australian Surface Water Archive contains a wide variety of data collected
at surface water monitoring sites across the State. Time-series digital data is
stored in the HYDSTRA Time Series data management and reporting system, from which
a subset of rainfall, water level, flow and salinity data is provided in this system.
The range of information available for each site will vary dependent on what type
of data collected at the site. Information can be in four different formats:
 |
Reports
Textual reports. |
 |
Plots
Graphical representation of data. |
 |
Data Files
Data available for download. |
 |
Photos
Digital images. |
The following types of information and data are provided where available:
Site Information
Rainfall Data
Stream Water Level Data
Reservoir Level & Storage Volume Data
Flow Volume Data
Flow Rate Data
Salinity Data
In addition to the rainfall, water level and salinity data provided in the surface
water archive, other surface water data may be available from other monitoring sites
or for other variables at displayed sites. Much of this data has been collected
as part of specific projects rather than long term assessment purposes. As such,
the data requires a more detailed understanding of these projects to be of use.

Furthermore, other state and national agencies also collect a variety of surface
water data. For example, the Environment Protection Authority is the lead agency
in South Australia for water quality monitoring while the Murray-Darling Basin Commission
collects a wide variety of data across the entire Murray-Darling Basin. Links to
all South Australian Government agencies are available from the SA Central web site.
